PRECYCLED CONCRETE AGGREGATES WITH MODIFIED SURFACE AS A FILLER IN CONCRETE

ABSTRACT

This paper is focused on the reuse of construction and demolition wastes in concrete production. From a large group of demolition wastes the concrete waste was selected. Tested concrete samples were prepared using coarse recycled concrete aggregate. In these specimens, fraction 4/8 mm were replaced by recycled concrete aggregate with a range of 100%. To reduce the absorption of the recycled concrete aggregate, the surface of aggregate was activated by a multi-stage mixing and using of geopolymer phases. To preparation of geopolymers, fly ash from heating plant was used. All of these concrete mixtures were tested in compression strength after 28, 90, 180 and 365 days of hardening according to the standards. The compressive strengths of tested samples corresponded with the concrete class C 45/55. The other technological features as a density and total water absorption were studied. Average density of all samples ranged from 2160 kg/m3 to 2340 kg/m3 with the highest value in the reference sample with natural aggregates. Total water absorption of reference sample was about 3% during all periods, but water absorption samples prepared with improved surface recycled concrete aggregate with time gradually decreased from 9% to the level of 3%.
