ABSTRACT
Pruning is one of the most important agro-technical measures during cultivation of grapes that affects directly in increasing the quantity and quality of grapes and wine.
There are no templates to be applied to all lifting systems - forms of crowns, because each variety has different pruning methods. The number of buds left during pruning depends on many factors such as variety, fertile buds, power - vegetative state of the trunk, agrotechnic and cultivation system – form of the trunk. The number of buds has decisive influence both in the quantity and chemical composition of mosht (grape juice) and wine. The purpose of this research was to get detailed information in regards to the influence of the number of buds left during pruning, and setting the optimum number of fertile buds per trunk – to the Gamay variety in agro-ecological conditions of Rahovec, Republic of Kosovo. For this purpose, four different variants of pruning were applied, with different number of fertile buds per trunk. For this study, 160 trees with uniform vegetative potential and good health were selected. In this research program the following indicators are included: the quantity of grapes per trunk, the quantity of grapes per area unit (ha), sugar content in the mosht, total acidity content in the mosht, the total extract in the wine, total acidity of the wine, the alcohol amount in wine and organoleptic evaluation - wine tasting.
The results show that for each pruning variant in all investigated parameters, significant values are obtained. Based on the obtained results it can be concluded that by changing the number of fertile buds in trunk, the values in the quantity and quality of the Gamay grape variety are changing, and this affects directly the quality of wine.
Keywords: Gamay variety, buds, total extract, alcohol, wine.
