Calibrations of liquid flow meters are performed with primary standards that are based on measurements of the fundamental quantities; mass and time. Flow meters calibration are accomplished by timed collection of the measured mass of water flowing through the meter under test.
Static gravimetric liquid flow meters calibration method is used as primary liquid flow standards.
The method is based on the principle of measuring flow rate by static weighing and consists in: determining the initial mass of the weighing tank and the residual liquid in the weighing tank; deflecting the liquid jet into the weighing tank by using a diverter until the tank contains enough liquid to obtain the precision required. Start/stop chronometer for measuring time of the process required to collected the liquid in weighing tank is controlled by the position sensor, placed on the jet diverter.
The method demands the synchronization of the start/stop time measuring process with start/stop mass measuring collected in weighing tank and with start/stop integration the signal corresponding flow measured by the flow meters.
