ABSTRACT
Biguanide and its N-substitutes derivatives represent a difunctional compounds group known for their diversity therapeutical activities, such as antimalarial, antibacterial, disinfectant, antiviral, antihyperglycaemic agents and recently literature reports as analgesic and antidepressant drugs, selective agonists’ serotoninergics for the serotonin 5-HT3 receptors. In the last years the literature points out a large practical applications spectrum of the 4f metal complexes for their remarcable spectroscopy, optical and electrochemical proprieties, as diagnostic tools in different diseases through fluorescence imagining. The lantanoide complexes could be used as biomarkers in molecular recognition or in nucleic acids clivage, as contrast agents in NMR, for bodily pH-monitoring and in therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals. In this aim were synthesized some new Ce(III) complexes based on N-substituted biguanide ligands. These derivatives were characterized by elemental analysis, molar electrical conductivity, EPR, IR, UV-VIS and electronic spectroscopy. In the present paper we report the microbial action of the new Ce(III) complexes with biguanide derivatives compared with the one of the ligands, against different Gram positive (Staphylococcus coagulase positive, Streptococcus β-haemolitic A group, Streptococcus β-haemolitic B group, Streptococcus faecalis, Bacillus cereus, Corynaebacterium dyphtheriae) and Gram negative (Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Shigella flexneri, Escherichia coli, Salmonella B group, Proteus mirabilis) bacteria strains. The results emphasize that all Ce(III) complex compounds emphasize significant antibacterial activity compared with the ligand which present a low activity, against most of the tested microbial strains in the aim to identify if they could be used as potential antimicrobial agents.
