Existing buildings made of masonry, have been subjected, within the time, to the action of external or internal factors, which led to important structural damage. Finding the suitable methods for structural rehabilitation for each building in order to conserve it, particularly the historical monuments, is not a simple thing, mainly if they are affected by seismic vulnerability. The paper submits the results of the research upon these buildings, regarding the technological process of fitting at the base of a building, a system of seismic isolation. The study was carried out on a building (a Church) which has its structural system made of brick walls and the foundations made out of stone. An essential element when it comes to deciding the saving of a construction from the disaster caused by the seismic action, is the solution adopted for the structural rehabilitation. Special attention has been given to finding a possible and secure solution for fitting the studied insulation system at the base of the building. The study was carried out consideration the installation of the insulation system, at the foundation of the building. In order to be able to insert the isolation system at the base of the foundation, the execution of prior consolidation works at the existent foundation must be carried out. For the safe achievement of the consolidation, the execution technology represents an essential factor. After the work completion, the loadings transmission from superstructure to land will be carried out through the new foundations, done by strengthening the existing foundations and the fitted isolation system. Isolations method at the base is an efficient and effective way to keep the building in the elastic field at the time of a severe earthquake in order to reduce the occurrence of important structural damage or even the collapse.
