TESTS CARRIED OUT ON CABLE ENTRIES AND THEIR IMPORTANCE WITHIN THE CERTIFICATION PROCESS OF EXPLOSION-PROOF EQUIPMENT

ABSTRACT

Evaluation of explosion-proof protected electrical equipment in scope of certification is extremely important considering the risk of explosion that has to be minimized in order to ensure life safety and health of workers and to prevent damaging of property and the environment, as well as free movement of goods when they meet the essential safety requirements at European level.
The purpose of this paper is to present the tests carried out on the cable entries with type of protection increased safety and flameproof enclosure used in potentially explosive atmospheres.
Assessment of explosion-proof protected electrical equipment is accomplished through tests carried out in accordance with the standard SR EN 60079-0 - which includes all general requirements for explosion proof protected electrical equipment.
The specific requirements for each type of protection are included in the specific standards (SR EN 60079-1 - which includes requirements for equipment protected by flameproof enclosures and SR EN 60079-7 - which includes requirements for equipment protected by increased safety).
The paper also presents the test stands for cable entries (with type of protection flameproof enclosure and type of protection increased safety) conceived this year at INSEMEX.
