RELIABILITY ANALYSIS OF THE BRAKE PADS OF THE WHEELED FRONT END LOADING AND TRANSPORTATION MACHINERY USED IN MINING

ABSTRACT

The scientific paper proposed deals with the reliability analysis of the average usage time of the brake pads as components of the braking system of the industrial front-end loader and transporter machinery used in mining operations in Romania. The research was conducted at the request of several mining companies in Romania, that are using the front-end loader and transporter machinery in their daily operations. The study is based on the empirical information and the preliminary reliability results that were recorded during the operation and maintenance of the machinery over time. The research concludes that the main causes of failure of the brake pads are the intensive wear and fatigue, determined by their intensive and repetitive usage as well as the large forces acting on them. The values obtained after the reliability analysis conducted are then used by the beneficiary companies for the estimation and management of supply parts needed, as a strategy of maintenance based on reliability for these machinery.
