OPEN PIT MINING TECHNOLOGY OF STEEPLY DIPPING MINERAL OCCURENCES BY STEEPLY INCLINED SUBLAYERS

ABSTRACT

This paper reviews a developed technology of mining steeply dipping mineral occurrences by steeply inclined sublayers, taking into account spatial position of sublayers relative to ore shoot. Parameters of phase and steeply inclined sublayers, till reaching final open pit depth, have been justified during studies. An order of steeply inclined layers formation on frontal open pit edges is determined depending on location of mineral resources on footwall and hanging wall. A new method of reactivation of a non-operating open pit edge of deep iron ore mine is offered. The new method will allow to increase annual minerals extraction capacity by 3-5 million tons and to save significant amount of monetary and material resources. Calculations of stripping operations parameters within the phase have been conducted, due to which position of working zones has been corrected allowing to operate integer number of excavators as mining operations deepen. Recommendations on implementation of new stripping operations technology while mining ferruginous quartzite in conditions of JSC “ArselorMittal Krivoy Rog” are presented.
