GEOMECHANICAL ASPECTS OF LARGE-SCALE MINING AT THE KHIBINY CONTIGUOUS APATITE DEPOSITS

ABSTRACT

The article presents the research results on geomechanical processes related to the change in the stress-strain state in the rock mass during large-scale mining operations in highly stressed rock massifs. A geomechanical model has been created that allows considering the sequential development of a complex of adjacent deposits at the Khibiny rock massif. Based on the modeling results, the optimal order and direction of development of mining operations under rockburst hazardous conditions are determined. At that, the embedded circular structure of the rock mass is taken into account, as well as the direction of tectonic compression, the main radial faults, the relief of the surface, and the parameters of the ore bodies. Specific features of the stressed-strain state of the Khibiny rock massif confirm the hypothesis on transformation of the stressed-strain state type with depth and reorientation of the principal stresses in the blocks of the rock mass between the radial faults. Absolute altitude marks are defined, below which vertical stresses prevail over horizontal ones. The obtained results can be used in making decisions on the development of other adjacent deposits.
