Decades are mining raw materials from seabed deposits. We are talking about deposits which are on the interface of land and sea. These are placer deposits as heavy metals and gemstones, secondary deposits of limestone, phosphorus, salt and also beach deposits on the edge of the continents.
In this article, the authors want to become familiar with both forecasting utilization of selected earth resources, but also want to point out new trends in obtaining them. In this article, we have a broad spectrum of earth resources selected energy resources, non-renewable, such as oil, gas, coal and prospective sources of metals in the form of polymetallic nodules on the sea, which it is currently rather limited knowledge. So called off shore oil and natural gas mining in the shelf area are long time subject of public interest not only from the technical attractively gaining oil from the seabed, but mostly from negative reaction of international environment organization protesting against marine pollution. Polymetallic nodules are not the only one representative of utility minerals located on the great depth of the seabed.
The big unknown, but very promising energy source this century shows methane hydrates, where examined while low, but all the major world economies engaged in researching considerable resources. Forecasting is a systematic effort to anticipate future events or conditions, identifying the main challenges for the development of society and of qualified responses needed to achieve strategic objectives. Forecasting is a science and art together. Forecasting methods enable us to cope with situations in the future, reduce uncertainty and manage risk in the future development of society, economy, science and technology.
