ABSTRACT

The design and the execution of railways infrastructures imply exigent measurements not only from technical point of view, but also regarding the quality of the construction related or connected to the safety of the passengers. The technical norms and the continue development of the construction materials offers the possibility to realize infrastructures for railways that fist technically and economically to the concept of environmental protection. The geosynthetic materials involved in designing and maintenance of railways infrastructures have an economical and technical advantage by combining five relevant functions: separation, filtration, drainage, reinforcement and protection. The special combined and developed characteristics of geosynthetic materials, prevents the degradation of the whole railway structure and so providing a minimization of accidental risks. By choosing a technically correct design solution based on geosynthetic material, in time, will be achieved a decrease of maintenance and repairs costs.
