ABSTRACT
The paper presents geochemical researches of the Westphalian sedimentary rocks from the Lublin Coal Basin (Poland) with the use of various digestion methods. For all samples the concentration of main and trace elements was identified (Co, Mn, Bi, Cu, Zn, Mo, Pb, Ni, Fe, P, Mg, U, Ca, Sr, Zr, K, Rb, Al, V, Ba, Cr, Na, Th, Cd), using inductively coupled plasma mass spectroscopy (ICP-MS) The samples were prepared for testing by means of two different dissolution methods: the method of complete dissolution – multi-acid, and incomplete dissolution – aqua regia. The comparison of element concentrations obtained with these methods allowed us to separate three groups of elements: elements for which the results show small differences and have an extremely high correlation (Co, Mn and Bi); elements for which the results obtained after aqua-regia digestion are lower by 20-40%, highly correlated (Cu, Zn, Ni, Mo, Pb, Fe, P, Mg, U, Ca, Sr); elements for which the results obtained after the aqua-regia digestion are significantly lower (up to 80%)and not correlated (Zr, K, Na, Rb, Al, V, Cr, Ba).
