GEOCHEMICAL CHARACTERISTICS AND CONDITIONS FOR THE FORMATION OF THE PARFEN HORIZON (EASTERN SIBERIA)

ABSTRACT

The parfen horizon was formed in a wide range of environments. Therefore we offer methods of lithogeochemistry for paleogeographic reconstruction, stratigraphic breakdown and correlation. The parfen horizon of Kovykta field has been chosen as a subject of investigation. The samples of sandstone strata P1 and P2 have been collected there. Geochemical features of these rocks have been studied relying on 22 measurements of petrogenic oxides contents realized by X-ray fluorescence analysis and on 54 measurements of trace elements contents by ICP-MS. Geochemical indicators, variation diagrams and REE-spectrum have been used for lithogeochemical typification of rocks. Based on the results of the morphology analysis the normalized spectra have been divided into three types. The first type is characterized by a small positive anomaly Pr, Nd, Eu or Gd. It means that it was formed in sub-continental conditions (coastal-marine environments). The second type of spectra have reverse V-shaped form with distinct Eu peak. The weak separation of lanthanides implies the absence of redeposition sediment. The third type has a negative slope toward the heavy REE and the positive peaks Pr, Nd. It means that the rocks were formed in continental conditions. It means that these rocks were formed in coastal-marine conditions of sedimentation at a relative distance from the strand line. Relying on the trace elements distribution for all these sediments following features have been established. The layers P1 and P2 are characterized by a binomial deposit. P1 was formed in the delta front sedimentation environment, and P2 was formed in coastal-marine environment.
