ABSTRACT
The inception of smart cities transgress the boundaries of exploring prudent parameters in the realm practice of ‘sustainability’ which particularly address today’s energy efficient plethora. Current incessant cycle green mobility for smart cities, urges an understanding of elements that constitutes environmental sustainability as well as establishing the linkage of heritage, culture, and socio-economic impacts that fits in the urban metabolism criterion of forging resilient commuting networks in communities. This paper aims to identify opportunities for a better management and preservation of cultural assets; in this case, trolley vehicles within Portugal heritage regions. For this purpose, an included content meta-analysis study of tourism commuting choice (TCC), combined with comprehension of an extensive scientific literature created a set of hypothesis in the adding value role of sustainable tourism, culture, and green mobility which orientates to the fitting parameters of sustainable transport planning for efficient commuting in cities. Synthesizing theoretical and practical part of both qualitative and quantitative research methods in this presented work, the results verifies the importance of intelligent commuting grid networks from a sustainable tourism planning approach. Results from survey unfolded a linkage of eco-socialism behaviours during commuting habits. The questionnaires response further revealed the significance of cultural aspects and heritage value associated in trolley vehicles or public transportation in practice; in which, prescribing an unordinary approach in planning sustainable transportation concerning the rehabilitation of trolley vehicles.
