ABSTRACT
For the Romanian Black Sea coastal zone, in the context of completion of the construction works within the project "Protection and rehabilitation of the southern part of the Romanian coastline of the Black Sea in Constanta City Area and the Eforie Nord, Constanta county", financed by the European Union through Cohesion Fund of Sectoral Operational Programme Environment, it was generated a larger beach area of at least 42 hectares ensured through five beach areas extended over 100 meters that have been put into operation since the summer of 2016.
Apart from the direct results of the project, as a consequence of the implementation of specific solutions and engineering techniques used for coastal rehabilitation and protection, it generates indirectly major benefits into the regional development as well. Therefore, in this article the authors are proposing, as an intermediate result of an international project that are involved in regarding Maritime Spatial Planning (MSP) of the Black Sea, to develop a study from the perspective of expected benefits of Romanian coastal rehabilitation works of the Black Sea over sustainable development in the region. The method used in this study was to analyze the official available documents, as a basis for a multi-criteria analysis (considerations on the environmental, social, economic benefits) which considers/takes into account the forecasted impact and benefit generated for a sustainable development in a strategic maritime border area of sustainable development, such as the Black Sea coast.
