ABSTRACT
This paper presents the results obtained in the experimentation of some synthetic amphidiploids of autumn wheat realized by National Agricultural Research and Development Institute Fundulea and tested in the conditions of South Oltenia region.
N.A.R.D.I. Fundulea during the last fifteen years experimented doubled haploids technology to wheat, as a method of reducing time for the obtaining DH lines by Zea method. The most known variety of autumn wheat obtained by this method is Glosa, which is presently cultivated on large areas, especially in South Romania.
Usually, the improvement of crops requires first, the creation and introduction of genetic variation, second, inbreeding, coupled with selection and then, extensive evaluation of breeding materials in multiple locations to identify adapted and stable genotypes with desirable agronomic traits.
A series of well know research institutes all over the world sustain than DH method could be very efficient in releasing valuable varieties of wheat or helpful in new genotypes breeding in order to reduce the impact of climate change.
The experiment took place in the research field of Caracal Research Station. It was studied 10 synthetic amphidiploids of autumn wheat comparative with their parental forms. This station focuses on the creation of new autumn wheat (common and durum), with increased resistance to drought, productive and superior quality and testing the new Romanian and foreign genotypes for many agricultural species.
The obtained results can lead to the appreciation that the utilization of the technology of DH lines may increase the genetic variability of the biological material used in breeding programs to autumn wheat. From this material can be selected forms with valuable quantitative characters which can be further used in new varieties release.
