ESTIMATION OF EMISSIONS FROM LOCAL HEATING SOURCES IN HEAVILY POLLUTED PARTS OF NORTH-WEST BOHEMIA

ABSTRACT
Air pollution is due to its impact on health one of the major environmental problems in the Czech Republic. Especially in regions with a high concentration of heavy industry and mining as the North-west Bohemia. We focused on air pollution caused by the small stationary sources and we applied the balance calculation methodology of the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute. In this study the methodology was completed by a new knowledge of the Energy Research Center, VŠB-Technical University of Ostrava. Balance calculations are used for the estimation of an amount of substances (Particulate matter-PM, SO2, NOx, CO, Volatile Organic Compound-VOC, Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons-PAH, Polychlorobenzodioxins and Polychlorodibenzofurans-PCDD/F) emitted. The first scenario represents the modernization of those local burners, which will not meet the emission limits by the year 2022. The second scenario represents a modernization by the means of full use of existing natural gas connections. The situation remains unchanged in municipalities with no gas connection in this case. The third option includes the full use of the gas connections and contemporary modernization of burners in municipalities with no gas connection. All scenarios are compared with a current status (winter in 2013/14). According to our calculations is the third scenario the best one for reduction the amount of emissions from local burners. This scenario represents decrease of emitted PM, CO, VOC and PAH for more than 95%, decrease of emitted PCDD/F for more than 50%, SO2 for 65% and finally NOx for 15% in comparison to current status.
