QUALITY CONTROL OF ROTARY DRILLING PROCESS OF ROCKS BY SHEWHART CHARTS USING THE ACCESSORY VIBRATION SIGNAL

ABSTRACT
Efficient control of rotary drilling of rocks has been a long-term research objective of
the authors. Rotary drilling of rocks represents an energy-demanding process, which
implies significant need of the investigation in this area. One of the applied approaches
is use of specific mathematical methods for process identification based on accessory
vibro-acoustic signal accompanying the rock drilling. Knowledge on functional
analysis, mainly Hilbert’s space, has been applied for design of algorithms for efficient
process control.
The paper illustrates a possibility of statistical regulation of rock drilling process based
on Shewhart charts, where specified parameters of vibration signal represent the
features of drilling process quality. As the Shewhart charts serve for graphic
interpretation of the process control, authors deliver the visualization of the process by
specific interpretation of vibration signals as vectors of Hilbert’s space into Euclidean
plane.
