THE MAIN IONS IN DRINKING (TAP) WATER IN DIFFERENT DISTRICTS OF TBILISI CITY (THE LARGEST SETTLEMENT IN GEORGIA)

ABSTRACT

It is known, that there are two qualitatively different sources of supply of Tbilisi by
potable water - underground (artesian wells near settlements Natakhtari, Bulachauri,
Mukhrani) and surface (Tbilisi reservoir filled with waters of the rivers Aragvi and Iori).
The work gives the values of the main ions (Ca2+, Mg2+, SO4
2-, Cl-, HCO3-, CO3
2-) and
water hardness in drinking (tap) water in different districts of Tbilisi city (the largest
settlement in Georgia). There have been received the values of concentration of Ca2+
ions from 38.0 mg/l up to 56.8 mg/l; Mg2+ from 2.4 mg/l to 11.5 mg/l; SO4
2- from 20.0
mg/l to 58.0 mg/l; Cl- from 12.9 mg/l to 18.5 mg/l; HCO3- from 101 mg/l to 164 mg/l;
concentration of CO3
2- ions in all samples was below the detection limit. There are
given characteristics of content of drinking (tap) water in different districts of Tbilisi
city depending on time (for the period of 2009).
