ABSTRACT
Information technology is at the base of the development of the various subsystems which influence the growth of metropolises, which in turn can only function with proper funding. The synergetic influence of these subsystems increases work effectiveness, which leads to shifts in the relation between material and immaterial values. This, in turn, causes a demand for new products. The lowering of the demand for material goods due to the conflicts resulting due to economic inequality is accompanied by a rise in the demand for specialists with new skills, who are needed to operate the subsystems that are remodeled with modern decision-making and logistical structures. An important technological breakthrough, which can probably cause further territorial growth of metropolises is the development of the high speed magnetic levitation train, which allows us to shorten the travel time between the nodes of the metropolitan network, as well as their centers. This causes an increase in the influence of the region and its metropolitan area.
Keywords: metropolitan area, metropolitan scale, metropolitan spatial structure
