THE IMPACT OF DEFORESTATION ON THE STRUCTURAL DYNAMICS OF ECONOMIC PROFILE IN THE MOST AFFECTED TERRITORIAL SYSTEMS IN ROMANIA

ABSTRACT
Romania is currently facing strong pressure on forest ecosystems from other component of the economic system. In recent years, large areas of forest have been deforested, in order to provide raw material for the industry, the export of timber and timber requirements for traditional domestic heating. At the same time, illegal deforestation have reached alarming levels over the last 10 years. Accordingly, in the territorial systems have been important imbalances that require urgent action. Quantifying the deforested areas was made from a database, conducted by the University of Maryland, Department of Geographical Sciences, Global Forest Change 2000 - 2012. For modeling the economic impact a database for the period 2000-2012 was made, and the first 10 administrative units by deforested areas were analysed. The database includes: the evolution of the number of firms, the evolution of turnover, profit development and the number of employees for the following NACE codes (Classification of Activities of National Economy): 0220 - logging, 0240 - Support services to forestry, 1610 - Cutting and planing of wood, 1621, 1622, 1623.1624 and 1629 - Manufacture of wood, 4673 - Wholesale of wood. The results show significant structural changes in the direction of growth ranks held by each economic sector.
