APPLIED SOLUTIONS FOR DRAINAGE SYSTEM OF LANDFILLS USING GEOSYNTHETIC MATERIALS

ABSTRACT
Drainage system of the landfills, in the traditional solution, is composed of granular material, gravel and gravel with sand, chosen so that the permeability obtained to allow drainage of the maximum estimated flow rate.
For the new solutions used in drainage systems design, granular material (traditional solution) used is replaced with geosynthetic materials (geogrids and drainage geocomposites), playing the role of the filter. The advantage is that the modern solution provides a thin filter which decreases the useful volume of the landfill.
This paper presents theoretical and some applied solutions in drainage systems of the landfills fitted with sealing system of geosynthetic materials.
In this study case, the results of equivalent calculation show the superiority of these sealing systems compared with conventional solutions.
