Slags forming on the walls of the boiler and granulating grate lead to many negative effects. Slagging leads to clogging flue system, which can reduce the boiler output, reduce heat transfer or cause mechanical stress pipes. These negative effects can lead to unplanned shutdown of boiler. The corrosion under the formed slag can occur. The paper describes the possibility of gluing suppression on the walls of the boiler by adding MgO-based additives to the batch (Ostrava´s scud). The possibility of gluing suppression was tested in laboratory conditions where thermoplastic properties of ash were determined. The influence of the addition of NALCO 8270 on modification of thermoplastic properties of ash cannot be clearly confirmed based on the laboratory experiments. To clearly prove the additive influence other experiments will be carried out. However, recent operating results indicate that the additive increases the softening temperature of the components forming the slag and increases the slag porosity.
