Paper deals with the management of historic buildings focusing on differences over
conventional buildings or new buildings. Historical buildings have their own laws that
must be complied with in the process of monument protection. This paper compares two university buildings, one of them is a historic building from the 19th century in the
center of Kosice and the second was built in the 70 - ies of the last century. Comparison is in terms of building constructions and their restoration and aintenance of the proposed, and these results from passports are summarized in tables. Based on these results were processed by the principles of maintenance, rehabilitation and modernization of historic buildings.
