ABSTRACT
The sterile rocks dump Arsului Valley is located in the mining basin Petrosani and
consists of the waste from the underground work for the coal extracting. Although it is a relatively small dump, there is a likelihood of slope slides, in particular of the final
slopes. The sliding of the waste material can lead to a number of technical and
environmental problems: damage to the dumping works and machinery, blocking the
creek Arsului Valley and the access road. The paper presents the researches on stability reserve of the dump, the measures for slide prevention and the geometry for further dump construction.
