ABSTRACT

The aim of the project Geobase was creation of the intranet application above the current geological database which is managed by our company. This application enables to the employees to utilize effectively the data of the company and at the same time the potential of the key employees-specialists can be better used.
The application is based on the three basic technical pillars – virtual map server, map server and expert database. The Virtual map server represents a universal communication interface between GIS and the other applications. The map server is based on the Open Source technology UMN MapServer. The expert database is a program gdBase_5 – it is a multiuser database for common processing of the geological, hydrogeological, geophysical, laboratory and other data. The data are stored in separate databases MS SQL Server 2005 (2008).
The communication from GIS to the expert database is provided by the system hotlink, which represents a hypertext reference to the geography data. For this and for the opposite operation is used a component of the Virtual map server – Managed Interface.
The application runs in the basic internet browser and it is connected to the expert database of boreholes. The topographic map with all boreholes is the basic foundation of the application. There will be opened a geological profile of the borehole, its main data, technical and hydrogeological data, by clicking on some borehole. The basic map can be overlapped by other thematic maps – geological map, climatic division, cadastral map, ortophoto et al. Users can see all geographical context of neighbourhood of the borehole which they are interested in. It is possible to search for a borehole according to locality of placement, cadastral area, depth of boreholes et al.
