ABSTRACT

In this study, the “Rathus Assertive Scale” (RAS) which was adapted to Turkish by
Voltan Acar used to assess the assertive behavior of the students. The scale is
consisted of 30 items and it is a Likert type scale. The scale range from +90 to -90 and
the individuals whose scores are above +10 are accepted to behave assertively.
First of all, 120 students participated in this research. From these total sample, 20
volunteer students whose grades were lower than +10 were chosen for both
experimental and control groups. These 20 students were randomly divided into two
groups. Again one of these two groups was randomly assigned as the experimental and
the other one as the control group. Then group therapy was only conducted for
experimental group for ten weeks and later again as a post-test the assertive behavior of
two groups (experimental and control) were measured by (RAS).
The results of variance analysis and t-test showed that group therapy has been effective
on assertive behavior of the students.
