ABSTRACT:

Ecological system of the Black Sea is endowed with certain characteristics that promote
development of life underwater. Coastal areas are complex and dynamic systems, being
subjected to natural and anthropogenic influences. To determine the status of coastal
contaminants in the marine environment the following indicators of contamination have
been taken in consideration: heavy metals, total oil content, polyaromatic hydrocarbons,
organo-chloride pesticides, and microbial load.

Keywords: marine ecosystem, heavy metals, organic pollutants, microbiological load
