ABSTRACT

When carrying out the activities, related to the exploration, operation
and processing of uranium ore in Bulgaria the environmental protection
was not among the priorities. As a result of many years of industrial
activity the technogenically increased natural radiation background in
some regions has reached significant levels and the chemical pollutants has
threatened the pools with clean water and the ground surface.
The cessation of work for uranium mining and milling was done in a
hurry, without preliminary preparations and without any regulating
normative documents.
For this purpose, a normative document has been made, regulating
the monitoring in these regions.
