ABSTRACT

The research is focused on the elemental composition of humic acids (HAs) extracted from sapropel found in lakes of the Middle Priobye and the southern Ob-Irtysh basin of West Siberia. Particular attention is given to the fact that sapropel samples were formed under various hydrothermal and environmental conditions. The peculiar features of HA elemental composition, which are evident in element content, atomic ratio and oxidation degree, were revealed. They indicate the relationship between aromatic and aliphatic parts, as well as the conditions humanification takes place. The content of nitrogen in HAs of sparopels of Novosibirisk region is two times higher than that of HAs of sapropels found in Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug.
It was revealed that H:С ratio of HAs of sapropels found in the southern part of West Siberia ranges from 0.83 to 1.19, in the Middle Priobye – from 0.87 to 1.24. This fact proves the less degree of aromaticity (α), the “maturity” of macromolecules within the taiga region.
The revealed levels of oxidation (ω) indicate the fact that HAs of sapropels have restored form and negative value of ω, except for HAs of sapropels found in some lakes of the Middle Priobye, where there are oxidized forms and positive values of ω.
The research results can be used for large-scale evaluation of sapropel fields and provide data required for producing humic acid-based substances. They are of practical value for agriculture, medicine, and machine engineering. The proposed approaches to analyzing HAs can be used in research institutes, higher education establishments by scholars, faculty staff, and students.
