MULTILAYER FOREST COVER MAP AS A BASIS OF FOREST REGENERATION DYNAMICS ESTIMATION

ABSTRACT

Using multilayer forest cover dynamics map, which was developed based on GIS, remote sensing data, forest inventory and field data post-fire and post-logging forest regeneration trajectories were revealed in a range of forest growth conditions. A legend of the map was built based on dynamic classification of forest cover and contained information about forest regeneration series and their age stages in different forest growth conditions types. Based on this map a spatial distribution of the most common forest succession series was analyzed. Rates and directions of successions were determined. Quantitative data on dynamics of growing stock volume for forest regeneration series in a range of forest growth conditions were presented.
