RESEARCH REGARDING AS AND CD EXTRACTION FROM THE POLLUTED SOILS

ABSTRACT

This paper shows laboratory researches in order to extract arsenic and cadmium from the polluted soils. Research is based on preliminary studies regarding the usage of microorganisms which were selected from the same sampling points of soil assays for decontamination of soil polluted with heavy metals (As and Cd). The soil samples are subjected to the cleaning process with different extraction solutions (9K medium and chemical solutions) stirred 200 rpm for 72 hours at a controlled temperature (32 °C). During the experiment, liquid samples have been extracted and analyzed using the Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer AA-6800 (AAS) in order to determine the As and Cd concentration. The researches show the degree of metal extraction depending the extraction solution used and show high extraction ratios in the case of Thiobacillus ferrooxidans microorganisms usage. In conclusion, 9K medium can be used to clean the polluted soil, having high extraction yields.
