IN SITU SYNTHESIZED MAGNETITE ZSM-5 FOR EFFICIENT REMOVAL OF PHOSPHATE FROM WASTEWATER

ABSTRACT

Phosphate removal from wastewater is necessary at sewage treatment plant before discharging into the natural streams due to many reasons especially to preserve phosphate and to avoid eutrophication. Magnetite nanoparticles stabilized on ZSM-5 zeolites were used to adsorb, remove and recover phosphate from said wastewater. Three samples namely, magnetite, [email protected] and ZSM-5 were used for batch adsorption experiments. Results indicated the highest phosphate removal efficiency for [email protected] material. [email protected] composite was synthesized with magnetite k factor of 0.2. Before starting the adsorption removal experiments all the three materials were thoroughly characterized by modern instruments such as, X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infra-red (FTIR) spectroscopy, thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), and surface morphologies by N2 adsorption at 77K. For efficient removal of phosphate, parameters like adsorbent dose, time, and pH were optimized.
