ASSESSMENT OF WATER POLLUTION IN THE CANALS OF HIGHWAYS IN THE EUROPEAN NORTH OF RUSSIA

ABSTRACT

A great problem of maintenance of highways in the Northern territories – environmental pollution of anti-icing materials. Chemical compounds as a part of the anti-icing materials can also have a negative impact on metal and concrete structures of facilities along the roads. Method of sampling of water and snow along the roads is presented in the article. The results of the chemical research of the degree of water pollution in the canals of highways witch operated in the city of Arkhangelsk and the Arkhangelsk region of the Russian Federation are presented. The concentration of anti-icing materials in water and snow along the roads in the spring, summer and autumn is shown. The analysis of changes in the concentration of inorganic substances in water canals of roads was done. The maximum concentrations of inorganic elements are not a serious threat to long-term operation of metal and reinforced concrete constructions along the highways. This research is a continuation of the analysis of pollution of soils of roadsides.
