CHARACTERISTICS OF THE PRODUCTS OBTAINED FROM THE AEROBIC COMPOSTING OF ORGANIC FRACTION OF MUNICIPAL SOLID WASTE

ABSTRACT

Landfilling, composting and incineration represent the most common processes used for the disposal of organic fraction of municipal solid waste (OFMSW).
One of the methods that allow to limit the amount of stored biodegradable wastes is their biological transformation. In the European Union, composting is one of the most widely promoted methods of the biological processing of biodegradable waste. Composting of wastes consists on applying microbiological processes of transformation of the matter to obtain decomposition or transformation of organic substances that the waste contains into products (compost) that may be returned to natural circulation of matter. In order to be able to use compost as manure or soil improving agent it should meet high quality requirements. The article present results of tests for physicochemical properties of products (compost and stabilized product) obtained in the process of aerobic composting of municipal wastes. Presented results were evaluated in respect of parameters characteristic for organic manures.
