ABSTRACT

The direct field observations and processing the info-graphic support (satellite images, thematic maps, profiles, digital images of the area) led to the preparation of this paper and realization of the proposal rehabilitation measures of anthropogenic landforms generated by coal mining activities in Petrosani Basin. These are exemplified by analyzing the Petrila 2 East dump (the Eastern end of the Basin) and Campu lui Neag coal pit (in the Western end of the Basin). The landscape of Petrosani Basin is transformed by summed actions and processes of the past through the present and continue into the future. This amount of processes is present and constant, even if in time, the content and proportions of the different elements change and adjust sometimes approaching to balance, but never really touching it. Anthropic landforms resulted from coal mining activities give a discordant note in the natural landscape of the depression, but hidden potential that it holds can bring economic benefits by exploiting it by the local communities for tourism or recreation.
