NEW SGEM Scientific Online eLibrary
After a long time work, our pride is the absolutely new SGEM Online eLibrary, available here. The Library is created according the rules of the International databases, with a whole needed information and ability to export the article in BIB format. Try and spread your experience with us.
Till we complete the new library with papers from all the years, you can use this link /Full Old Library/, if papers that you need are not visible yet here.

FATIGUE PROPERTIES MODIFICATION ON HEATING OF SHAPE MEMORY NI-TI ALLOYS

Vasilescu, M.; Dobrescu, M.
Abstract:
The paper presents some experimental study about fatigue properties modifications in Ni-Ti alloys on heating. The shape memory of alloys is used many times by heating and cooling and/or loading and unloading. The stability of material characteristics as transformation temperatures and mechanical behavior, during thermal or stress cycling is an important consideration in developing suitable alloys. Although shape memory alloys can be subjected to both thermal and stress cycling, it is necessary to investigate these effects separately in order to develop a basic understanding of each. The pseudo and super elasticity are some of important properties of the shape memory alloys. Since super elasticity appears only by loading and unloading above Af, thermal cycling is not involved, and stress-cycling effects are the main consideration. By cyclically applying stress, the alloys finally show fatigue failures, which place a limit upon practical uses. In the paper are shown the above cycling effects and fatigue life of Ni-Ti alloys, and also indicates how one can suppress cycling effects and extend super elastic fatigue life. In the paper are shown some fatigue property modifications in Ni-Ti alloys during heating and thermal and stress effects on fatigue properties during heating and cooling and/or loading and unloading. Those changes influence the stability of material characteristics like transformation temperatures and mechanical behavior during thermal and stress cycling. The paper shown the way through is possible to improve the fatigue life of shape memory Ni-Ti alloys.
