NEW SGEM Scientific Online eLibrary
After a long time work, our pride is the absolutely new SGEM Online eLibrary, available here. The Library is created according the rules of the International databases, with a whole needed information and ability to export the article in BIB format. Try and spread your experience with us.
Till we complete the new library with papers from all the years, you can use this link /Full Old Library/, if papers that you need are not visible yet here.

THE INFLUENCE OF TIO2 NANOPARTICLES ON THE PROPERTIES OF SELF-CLEANING CEMENT MORTAR

Kaszynska, M.; Olczyk, N.
Abstract:
A new trend in concrete technology is to introduce photocatalytic concrete, also known as a self-cleaning concrete. This technology is based on the addition of TiO2 (titanium dioxide) to concrete mixes. Photocatalytic activity of TiO2 and its hydrophilic properties make it suitable for addition to building materials, particularly in architectural concrete or self-consolidating concrete. When concrete surface is exposed to the sunlight most pollutants are neutralized. In the present study the influence of addition of TiO2 to cement mortars is shown. The mortars were produced by adding from 1% to 5 % of modified TiO2. This modified TiO2 was produced in the laboratory at the West Pomeranian University of Technology, Szczecin. The compressive and tensile strength, initial and final setting time and self-cleaning properties were tested. Properties of mortars with addition of the TiO2 were compared to properties of ordinary mortar. Performed studies have shown that the addition of the titanium dioxide influences the flowability of cement paste and significantly increases the rate of setting process. The reduction of the strength of modified mortars compared to ordinary mortars was insignificant, proving that the titanium dioxide has the application in modern architecture. Use of photocatalysts can be beneficial for the concrete elements and surrounding environment.
